Parenting in the Genetic Age: Parents, impairment and dilemmas of responsibility
Email Dr Susan Kelly
This project explores the implications of genetic and genomic technologies and understandings of disease and impairment for parental decision-making about interventions into childrens’ physical and mental health. I am developing a theory of intervention decisions drawing upon social science scholarship concerning genetic and genomic technologies and biomedicalisation.
MethodsThe project uses empirical research undertaken in the US into experiences of families with children affected by genetic conditions.
Further informationThis research will lead to a monograph on social and biomedical contexts of intervention into impairment and dilemmas of responsibility experienced by parents.
