IntroductionJohn Dupré gave the closing lecture in the Darwin lectures at Darwin College.
The Egenis director spoke on 'The Boundaries of Darwin', concluding this year's series on 6 March. Darwin College has organised a series of eight public lectures every academic year since 1986. Each series has been built around a single theme, approached in a multidisciplinary way and, as the College says, "with each lecture prepared for a general audience by a leading authority on his or her subject".
The lecture attracted a capacity crowd of 550 people in the Lady Mitchell Auditorium, with a substantial overflow audience watching the lecture on screen. The talk is available to download or to listen online from the Darwin College website, and papers based on the talks in the series will be published later this year by Cambridge University Press.
Other speakers this year were: Professor Sean Carroll, University of Wisconsin; Professor Janet Browne, Harvard University; Professor Jim Secord, University of Cambridge; Professor Rebecca Stott, University of East Anglia; Professor Paul Seabright, University of Toulouse; Professor Craig Moritz, University of California; and Professor Steve Jones, University College London.
