17.01.2013

Introduction

John Dupré took part in a debate organised by the University of Exeter Debating Society.

Story

Egenis Director took part in a debate organised by the University of Exeter Debating Society in the Peter Chalk Centre on Friday evening.

The debate was organised in association with the Evangelical Christian Union(ECU) and the motion is: 'This house believes in the existence of God'.

Prof Dupré opposed the motion, together with Keith Denby, Chair of Devon Humanists. The motion was proposed by theologian and author Michael Green, and John Allan, chaplain to Exeter School.

Each of the four speakers had five minutes to put their argument, beginning with the proposer and alternating between each side. There was then a question and answer session where each side responded to audience questions. The debate finished with a two minute summary from one speaker on each side of the panel. There was a vote on the motion before and after the debate.
