IntroductionEgenis researchers awarded more than £150,000 to examine developmental disorders.
, Egenis Research Fellow, together with (Egenis), Dr Tamsin Ford and Dr Obioha Ukoumunne of the University of Exeter Medical School, and co-investigators in Cardiff and Bristol Universities, have received an ESRC award of £154, 254 for their project “Increased diagnosis of developmental disorders: Are there really more children with Autism, Dyslexia and ADHD?”. The award is part of the ESRC’s Secondary Data Analysis Initiative.
The team will analyse two successive UK birth cohorts to examine whether increased prevalence of these conditions can be explained solely by improved recognition of the disorders, or if there are in fact increasing numbers of children showing symptoms. The project will also analyse to what extent children share symptoms of the three conditions, and whether boys are more likely to be identified than girls when symptoms are equally severe.
