Abstract

It has been proposed that the mind is not "brainbound" but can extend beyond the skull and even the skin, into the world. This intriguing idea is also known as the "extended-mind" thesis and, not surprisingly, has generated much debate. So far however this thesis, and the debate around it, have focused primarily on cases of extended cognition, neglecting the emotional and more generally affective dimension of the mind. In this talk I shall start exploring the question of whether emotions and affectivity can indeed be extended, and what this implies for our understanding of the mind more broadly.
