Abstract:

The claim that we are witnessing a genomics revolution, notably in the biomedical field, has been relentlessly endorsed by some (the genomics believers) and ferociously disputed by others (their critics, both within and outside the biomedical arena). In my assessment I will focus on the narratives developed by the “believers”, from the days of the launching of the project up to recent retrospectives. In The language of Life, Francis Collins, former director of the HGP and now director of NIH, once again has taken the lead in confirming the revolutionary nature of genomics in biomedicine, but also in reframing what this revolution entails. In my presentation, I intend to analyse and assess his views.
