The aim is to situate law in the context of recent theories of cultural transmission. The chosen core literature is: Richerson and Boyd (2005), Not by genes alone: how culture transformed human evolution; Mace, Holden and Shennan (Eds.) (2005), The evolution of cultural diversity: a phylogenetic approach; Jablonka and Lamb (2005), Evolution in four dimensions – Genetic, epigenetic, behavioral, and symbolic variation in the history of life, and the survey review article by Griffiths in Metascience (2006), ‘Recent work on the evolution of culture’.
