Biography

Ian Welsh is a Lecturer in the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University. He has a BA Hons. in Social Science at Middlesex Polytechnic and completed his PhD at Lancaster University. He has held positions at Lancashire, Sheffield and Humberside Polytechnics and the University of the West of England, Bristol before joining Cardiff University in 1995. His initial research focused on public engagement with Big Science issues through a study of the nuclear power controversy in the United Kingdom. At Cardiff he has focused on risk and the environment in the context of globalisation. He is interested in public uptake of genetics issues and has written on xenotransplantation. He is author of Mobilising Modernity: The Nuclear Moment and edited Environment and Society in Eastern Europe (with Dr A. Tickle).
