IntroductionRuth Chadwick and Cardiff Law School's Atina Krajewska on the new EU Data Protection Regulation
On day 2 of the Global Biobanking Summit, being held in London, Cesagan Director Professor Ruth Chadwick and her colleague Professor Atina Krajewska, from Cardiff Law School, are introducing the new EU Data Protection Regulation and discussing its impact on the use of genetic and genomic data. Issues they are discussing include:
- Identifying the differences between directives and regulations - disentangling "privacy" and "personal data protection"
- A wider definition of personal data
- "Explicit consent"
- "The right to be forgotten"
Following this they have been taking part in an interactive open forum exploring the questions of how to handle and share sensitive genetic data.
